Courses for the CLAH minor explore the range of Chicana/o and Latina/o experiences in the United States and the Americas. Listed below are the requirements for the minor.


Winter 2018- Departmental Course Offerings



Students may petition courses to count toward the CLAH minor. Petitions will be reviewed on a case by case basis and approval is subject to the faculty instructor’s discretion and Program Director. Courses must have at least 50% or more of Chicano/a~Latino/a context. Petitions must be petitioned immediately for review; prior to, during, or after taking a course.

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA in the CLAH minor.
  • Officially declare the minor using the Major/Minor tool.
  • Consult your college advisor and the CLAH coordinator to learn how declaring the minor may affect your degree plan.
  • Complete seven 4-unit courses (28 total units) that may be drawn from the Approved CLAH Course List and include at least five upper division courses, with no more than three in a single department.
  • Complete minimum of second year level Spanish Language instruction at UCSD or have satisfactory completion of Lit/Spanish 2A, B, C, D or E. Four units of lower division language may be counted toward the total unit requirement for the minor.
  • It is expected that courses will be taken for a letter grade, although students can petition for the pass/no pass option in CLAH courses. Approval is at the discretion of the CLAH Director.
