Is there a language requirement for the CLS minor?

No, effective Fall 2023, there is no longer a language requirement for the CLS minor. Students may take up to 10 units of language courses toward the minor if they choose. 7 courses (28 units) are required to complete the minor regardless of whether language classes are included. 

I took a course from another college/university that has CLS content, can I count it toward my minor?

Yes! Courses taken at another institution can be petitioned to count toward your minor. Approval of petitions are up to the discretion of the Program Director.

I took a UCSD course that has CLS content but it is not listed as part of the curriculum. Can I count it toward my minor?

Yes! Courses not listed on our course catalog may be petitioned to count toward your minor. Approval of petitions are up to the discretion of the Program Director.

How many courses can I overlap with my major?

You can only overlap a maximum of 2 courses (8 units) between your major and CLS minor.

How many courses can I take from the same department?

You can take a maximum of 3 courses (12 units) from the same department.
